Osama Loves Brian McLaren?

I don't think I've ever written a post specifically related to the "emerging" church movement/conversation. There is so much out there on the Internet about it by people more knowledgeable than me. But this article by Frank Pastore (i.e. pot-stirrer extraordinaire) has not surprisingly hit a button with me.

Read it and you will see the deepest flaws of hyper-politicized conservative Christianity in America in bright colors. Read it and you will understand why some Muslims refuse to acknowledge a distinction between the way of Jesus and the American way. Read it and remember that for some, even in America, the Crusader mentality is alive and well. Read it and pray for those Christians who will surely be persecuted in the Muslim world as a result.

The ruffled feathers of emerging church afficionados are the least of my concerns. And they will surely respond with lengthy blog entries. But realize that for Pastore, the "emerging church" is just a convenient face for all things "liberal," which must mean all those who do not worship at the blood-stained altar of the American dream.

My question is: Do the talking heads REALLY believe their own words or are they simply willing to say anything to attract attention? (It did get your attention.)

There are only so man angry-white-males to gobble up the conservative talking points. I think competition is SO stiff amongst the talking heads that they HAVE to outdo each other daily in a race to the bottom.

Jingoism, fear and bigotry sell, just consider how conservative talk radio dominates radio and the success of Fox News. The competition to attract viewers drives their words as much as, or more than pure conservative thought. In other words I think a lot of the blab is for shock value.

Having said that, I think we should keep an eye on such talk. Some of their viewers may take them seriously and act upon it --that is the real danger.
